Hearts and Flowers Lace Shawl

Hearts and Flowers Triangular Lace Shawl Pattern PDF File

This pattern is designed to have some flexibility in sizing and to work with both fingering and lace weight yarns. The sizing is determined by the number of repeats in the first section. Using the smallest number of repeats possible and fingering weight yarn, the final shawl size was around 66” wing span and 38” down the center back.

The fingering weight shawls were knitted using US 5 (3.75 mm) and had a gauge of 7.5 st. and 11 rows per inch. The yarn used in the fingering weight shawls was JoJoLand’s Melody for the varigated and Ballad for the solid. The brown lace weight shawl, made using Isager Alpaca 1, was knit on US 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles and was made 2 repeat sets larger. The final size of the brown shawl is the same size but is a much finer/airier finished shawl.

The pattern will take between 900 and 1200 yards of yarn depending on the size. Stitches used in this pattern are the usual lace stitches - yarn over, k2tog (and its counter part), & k3tog (and its counterparts). The first portions of the pattern are knitted with patterning done on the right side rows only (the wrong side row is a rest row). The bottom border however, is knit with patterning in all rows (no rest rows). The lace edging along the bottom is knit as the shawl body is 'cast off' so no sewing is required when the knitting is finished.

The pattern has both written and charted directions for the lace patterns. There is some optional beading in the pattern and the pattern uses both the crochet hook and prestrung methods for the beading.

This would look wonderful with Poems Sock, Saki Bamboo, Whisper Lace, Alpaca Lace, Heritage, Kid Seta, Cherub Baby, Baby Ull, On Line Supersocke, and Huasco yarns.

Amazing Earth Triangular Shawl

This lovely shawl mixes a simple, lovely lace pattern with a blending of colors using yarns of varying colors and color ways. This triangular shawl’s final shawl size is approximately 66” across the neck edge and 34” down the center back after blocking. The lace pattern is predominantly a 10 stitch, 10 row repeat with a final edge pattern along the lower edge of the shawl body and a lace edging that is worked across the bottom as the body stitches are ‘cast off’. The color changes are worked across the different rows while working the lace pattern.
In this pattern all the lace patterns are graphed for those who read graphs. They are also written out for those who do not. The lace edging along the bottom of the shawl includes an optional beading within the pattern which adds a special touch to the finished garment. Guidelines are included to show how the color changes have been worked into the shawl. They can be followed exactly or used as a template for your own color changes.

This pattern requires approx. 1800 – 2000 yards of sock\/fingering weight yarn, size 3 (3.25 mm) knitting needles, a stitch marker, and a yarn needle to run the ends in. The shawl shown was done with six skeins of Cherry Tree Hill SuperSock yarn in six different color ways (three are solid colors and three are varigated).

Stitches include knit, purl, yarn over, slip 1 stitch, knit two together, ‘slip 1 – knit 1 – pass slipped stitch over’, and ‘slip 1- knit two together – pass slipped stitch over’ as well as variants based on the last two.

Yarn Suggestions: Poems Sock, Saki Bamboo, Whisper Lace, Alpaca Lace, Heritage, Kid Seta, Cherub Baby, Baby Ull, On Line Supersocke, and Huasco yarns.
